Bexhill Sailing Club offers sail training to anyone over the age of 18 with no upper age limit. Training for under 18 year olds is provided through the cadet section.
Our training runs along the guidelines of the Royal Yachting Association approved structure and we combine the RYA Level 1 Start Sailing course with the RYA Level 2 Basic Skills course.
Our course takes you from being a complete novice to the standard of RYA Level 2 Basic Skills and on successful completion of all criteria as set out in the RYA syllabus, the sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques, background knowledge and be capable of sailing without an instructor on board in light winds.
We run two ten week courses and you can choose from either:
Tuesday Evenings – 6.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. from 27th May until Tuesday 29th July
Or Saturday Mornings – 9.00 a.m. to 12 noon from 31st May until Saturday 2nd August
This includes your tuition fees, membership to the club for the remainder of the season, free use of club boats during organised club events outside of your sail training session, use of buoyancy aids, sailing manual and a log book.
The course covers rigging, rope work, launch and recovery, sailing techniques and manoeuvres including tacking, gybing and sailing to windward, recovering a capsized dinghy which is conducted in a controlled manner with a safety boat in attendance, sailing theory, background knowledge and basic meteorology.
